A TRUE ARCHITECTURAL MONUMENT IN THE DEPTHS OF SYDNEY STUNS ITS CITIZENS.
The unique art installation Interloop is located at the Wynyard subway station. It is an interesting aerial composition hanging above the passengers. The installation itself resembles an accordion made from old escalator parts.
The first wooden escalator appeared at this station in 1931 and then it was replaced with a metallic one. Today's five-tone structure is more than 50 meters long and consists of 244 wooden stairs and four metal bases from the original escalator.
The author of this work of art is the australian architect, Chris Fox. In his words, the installation symbolizes the relationship between old and new, and aims to attract the attention of tourists and artists to Sydney’s architecture.
