2022 – a year of transformation and high vibrations

The Color of the Year is an initiative that we follow closely, both globally and indicated by the largest color company Pantone, and locally with its participation in the workshops organized by Orgachim, which aim to bring out the most popular trends for the region of Bulgaria in terms of colors.

Our society continues to turn to color as a mirror of its inner world, searches and inspiration, and colors are a powerful “weapon” of communication of our moods. With the shocks at the global level in the last 2 years, it is quite normal for the direction to be transformation and change of the individual and collective vibration.

Purple as innovation and transformation

For the first time, Pantone is creating an entirely new shade to be leading in 2022. According to Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, the purple shade Very Peri is a reflection of what is happening globally, namely through the creation of the new color, it reflects on universal transformation and global innovation.

Purple tones have always symbolized increased vibration and self-awareness, and the complex essence of Very Peri – a combination of red violets with blue notes, is an expression of creativity, the development of ideas, emotions and the search for growing opportunities for humanity.

Medara – the power of internal energy

Orgachim this year again they bring out an extremely energizing shade under the name Medara. It is part of the orange range and is distinguished by tone, strong energy and warmth. The color is a beautiful reference to the bright fashion of the 60s with its retro taste, drama and original presence.

Medara goes extremely well with natural materials such as wood, leather, linen. White and dark gray accentuate and liberate it.

Both colors – Medara and Very Peri, are suitable as an accent presence in the home due to their strong character. We advise you to include them in the interior on one of the walls through paint or beautiful wallpaper, for furniture – chairs, sofa or decoration – pillows, blanket, objects. In this way, they will be able to manifest their bright radiance without intrusion. Here are two examples of how we implemented the two colors as an accent in the interior of a bathroom:

We combined Very Peri with fresh white, frosted black and smoky glass. We combined medara with the presence of wood, large raster, white, and gold is just a wink to the warm radiance of space. In both cases, we have included an imitation of a mosaic, in which the leading color and complementary shades must be present to achieve homogeneity.

Of course, we will not ignore the fact of how well these two colors fit together. If you are a supporter of a more eclectic style, then you can safely experiment and combine them in one space. To complete the abundance of sensory sensations, you can add plush, long hair and coarse rasters to this interior. The presence of impressive carpets is very relevant, which not only through colors, but also shapes will express your expressive essence. Purple and orange bring a touch of Orient and will refresh your home qualitatively.

Milan Design Week 2021: interior trends

The forum, which “floods” the whole of Milan with the giant furniture design exhibition Salone del Mobile and many other smaller events and art installations, is of large-scale importance for interior design professionals, as it highlights the main trends in the industry. “To feel in your skin again – truly irreplaceable!” – says arch. Iveta Popova after her return from the largest international design event – Milan Design Week.

“After a year and a half of lull in major events, visiting Milan Design Week from a professional point of view is more than inspiring. I can quite consciously say that attending this forum is very important for me and has always validated the creative directions of the studio’s development. We saw incredibly beautiful installations, innovative design and more importantly – we created new contacts and exchanged experience with international colleagues.”

Nature and its constant presence in the home

A trend that we have observed in recent years and is here to stay is the presence of nature and earth elements in the home. Fabrics and materials such as wood, marble, stone, precious metals such as nickel, bronze, rose-gold; linen, wool, cotton, strengthen their positions and are even more daring in their participation in the interior through unusual patterns, coarse knitting, rough and natural surfaces.

Milan-Design-Week-2021_materials

An accent with shapes and patterns imitating vegetation is also noticeable, as well as the presence of living plants incorporated into the design.

Milan-Design-Week-2021_nature-elements

The color palette is entirely pastel with strong earth tones – brown, beige, ocher, tile, gray. And most brands are focusing on shades of green, and the trend is to make colorful and distinctive faucets and ceramics in the bathroom.

Finishes and textures

The surfaces are extremely diverse and combine each other – smooth, matte, ribbed, glossy, transparent, mirrored. The desired effect is the activation of the senses and provocation.

Milan-Design-Week-2021_ribs

The reliefs and patterns on the glass windows are reminiscent of retro design – ribbing, even imitation of broken glass or a water surface.

Innovation, eco and sustainable design

More and more systematic work is being done in the direction of sustainable and eco-friendly design. Extremely demanded by consumers in the West themselves, this is the reason for brands to persistently develop new and interesting implementations of recycled materials – plastics, paper and others. An absolute trend is antibacterial coatings, as well as easy-to-clean and maintainable fabrics.

The solutions of lighting brands in this direction are admirable, but we will pay special attention to them in the next article. [:]

How to refresh the home through the choice of textiles?

[:bg]

Current interior trends in textiles, furniture and decorations can be your solution to refresh your home and at the same time bring lasting change.

The wealth of varieties of textiles can be both captivating and completely confusing to make a decision. Therefore, today we will pay attention to some trends that we find highly attractive and suitable for lovers of bold choices in the interior. Thus, we hope to give guidance on how to easily change the look of the home, even by reupholstering your favorite sofa or changing chairs in the dining room.

Pique

We will skip the too lush jacquard, but not the piqué, which impresses with its variety of shapes – combs, squares or even rhombic elements. What we like most about it is that there are no smooth lines in the texture of the tip. To some extent, the popularity of piqué textiles comes precisely because of the original texture – on the one hand, furniture and other accessories made of this material look solid and simple, and on the other, attractive and modern.

Smallpox

Very durable and preferred by us are textiles with a fine pattern and relief, combining two or three colors of threads. They allow you to make vast combinations with monochromatic accents in the home and are a gathering point of several shades. Most often these are cotton fabrics, but you can find variations with linen or wool that look wonderful. The interesting to the touch pattern creates an additional experience through the feel of the fabric and is appropriately complemented by larger or finer textures.

The choice of upholstery of a sofa or armchair, for example, makes it possible to add decorative pillows of different colors and fabrics or a blanket with a larger knit, combining one or two colors of the pattern of textiles. It is important not to forget about the carpet as a factor in the overall décor, which can carry similar elements 😉

The combinations of two fabrics on furniture are extremely relevant. There is a wide choice in the design of chairs, for example, which combine – leather and wool, velvet and cotton or cotton and leather. When developing conceptual interior solutions, the choice of this type of furniture helps to pleasantly complement the overall idea and selection of materials in the home.

Here are some favorite examples of chair variations, both in the model itself and in the upholstery. In addition to the combination of contrasting fabrics to the touch, you can also experiment in different color combinations. These three wonderful specimens can be seen in our office and showroom Design Lab.

An elegant and stylish pattern is herringbone. It can fit very well both in the office space of the home and in the living room according to the choice of a combination of colors. What attracts us the most to these fabrics with several thread colors is the illusion of a 3D effect that some of them create. In this way, you will definitely grab attention on the furniture, even if you choose a simpler and cleaner home design.

“Ethereal Nature” – 3D project for a luxury bathroom

[:bg]

A CREATIVE CONCEPT BASED ON FREEDOM OF SPIRIT AND CONNECTION WITH NATURE

The famous Ideal Standard Bathroom of the Year competition with each subsequent edition distinguishes the high level of interior design in Bulgaria and we are openly provoked with our participation to show not only a beautiful design, but also an exciting conceptual project.

ATGdesign-bathroom-of-the-year-Idealstandard-contest (2)

Inspired by the growing demand for man to be close to nature in his daily life, we developed an interior for a luxury bathroom “Ethereal Nature”. The idea is for the exterior to enter the interior of a personal and intimate space – that of the bathroom. We achieve this interconnection through the panoramic showcase and the living tree next to the bathtub. The soft, dense curtain creates a feeling of coziness and tenderness, while serving as a décor of the “stage” around the bathtub, the unequivocal accent of which is lamps in the shape of stylized birds (Brokis- Night Birds).

ATGdesign-bathroom-of-the-year-Idealstandard-contest (4)

In addition to paneling, the design concept is supported both visually and meaningfully by slabs with a natural marble vision from Fiandre’s Eco-Active series. These plates, with their antibacterial and photoactive coating that purifies the air from toxic molecules, are an innovative solution and solidly complement the intention to build an environment closer to natural purity and airiness.

ATGdesign-bathroom-of-the-year-Idealstandard-contest (4)

The layout also speaks of freedom and ease of movement of the occupant, providing enough “floating” space. The shower cabin in the center with all-glass walls, as well as the free-standing bathtub next to the showcase, are a provocation and a reflection of the brave and carefree spirit.

ATGdesign-bathroom-of-the-year-Idealstandard-contest (4)

The elegant ceramics and faucets of the Ideal Standard fit in perfect harmony with the design. This is the point of balance between etherity – the personification of freedom on the one hand, and strength – associated with roots, strength and stability, on the other.

Roof terrace – a gift in the urban jungle

We choose to dream on a smog-enveloped day. Even though the air is so cold and turns tiny droplets into frost, we’re mentally drawn to a season where we’re more in love with the city. The warm months naturally provoke us to look for more open spaces, and the pleasure of having a roof terrace, we believe, is a privilege of God’s chosen ones in the urban jungle. Without a hint of envy, such a space is truly a gift. That is why we dedicate the following lines to a few ideas on how best to use it.

And what could be better than planning a renovation for spring, when you will already be looking forward to enjoying the time spent there?

In a house or apartment, the roof terrace offers many amazing options for decoration and furnishing. Natural materials such as wood and stone will remain an inevitable trend, which can contribute to coziness and will also bring you closer to the feeling of a villa in nature. Greenery is also a must in this line of thought – the abundance of plants will create a welcoming atmosphere and is an opportunity to create a natural barrier or décor that will hide less inhospitable views, for example.

As architects putting functionality first, our leading question would be – how will the space be used? For relaxation and solitude or for dinners with friends and night cinema?

In the first case, we would advise you to bet on upholstered furniture with the possibility of complete relaxation and enjoying the view. According to the conditions, you can bet on a hanging swing or hammock instead of an armchair. This will give a more buhemian and casual look to the place.

Rooftop-Terrase-swing-source-pinimg-com

If your goal is to get together with friends for or without an occasion, then it is good to keep in mind the construction of a small kitchen, barbecue or bar that will serve your good time. At a minimum, there would also be a dinner table for six people. If you want to avoid the pretentious style again – benches with a minimalist design can be a very good choice. We also highly recommend built-in furniture, which can significantly optimize space and also bring a dose of minimalism.

And despite its goals, there are a few must-have elements that we recommend considering when planning your future roof terrace.

One of them is certainly the fireplace!

The advantage of bio fireplaces in modern design is that they can be implemented in unusual places, thus optimizing the space and allowing everyone to be around the fire. For example, you can implement it in the center of a solid stone table. This will bring not only atmosphere to the evening gatherings, warmth in the cooler months and will not limit you from enjoying the spectacular view in the fall.

Creating a shed would also be a nice bonus, especially if you also have day parties on the weekend or want to have the opportunity to take a break from sunbathing in the shade. On the one hand, you can bet on a solid shed to cover part of the furniture – this is a convenience in the rainy/snowy months. On the other hand, it is nice to form a patterned shade with beams, on which you can place an airy fabric or glass. It is important, of course, to take it into account in your context and especially to keep in mind the solstice in the different seasons, so that its function is optimal.

4 Important elements for a harmonious bedroom interior

The bedroom is a reflection of the most personal preferences and style of its occupant. If for some it is a place where they cram only for a healthy sleep and do not pay much attention to it, then for others it is a secret temple. If the latter is for you – the interior should speak for itself with the necessary grandeur for this, of course. How to achieve this fascinating essence – we will share a few simple elements that we think are key to building the foundation, the rest is a matter of personal taste!

  1. COMBINATION OF COLORS

Keeping in mind that the bedroom is the room where you are looking for peace, privacy and relaxation – it is natural that the colors are harmoniously selected to bring this feeling. Our advice here is to choose one main one and two more that are in range with it, so that they complement it pleasantly without intrusion. For the more daring, it is possible to include as a leading and more active color. This mostly corresponds to the haratare, being a true reflection of your essence. Usually, however, this room of the apartment is accentuated with soft tones, which suggest relaxation of the eyes – the most strongly influenced in sensory terms.

If you still want to add a bright color as an accent to the décor, it is good to match it to the other shades and materials in the room, such as – what is the tone of the color of wood, marble or metal elements; so that it fits naturally among them.

  1. LIGHT

Free up the space around the windows! When planning the decoration, minimize decorations or furniture that can prevent light from entering the room. Of course, as a place for a good night’s sleep, it is good to have more solid curtains or thick blinds that provide an opportunity to darken even on the sunniest day.

ATG design blog post 4 bedroom tips - natural lights

3D visualisation by ATG design

When we make the architectural plan of a building – our team always relies on larger, and where appropriate – panoramic windows. We are of the opinion that the presence of natural light qualitatively changes the overall feeling, especially in the bedroom.

ATG design blog post 4 bedroom tips - lighting

3D visualisation by ATG design

The same can be said for lighting fixtures – properly selected lighting gives a different touch in the late hours of the day and can significantly change how a room looks. An increasingly popular trend is the implementation of controlled and directional lighting. This allows you to both reduce the strength of the lamps and their shade. And when placing directional lighting, it’s very important to know what kind of focus you want to give.

  1. CLOAKROOM

ATG design blog post 4 bedroom tips - wardrobe

3D visualisation by ATG design

Yes – in a word, a lot of space! In order not to be present as your regular guest in the bedroom, we advise you to think in the direction of separating enough space for things and clothes. A clever approach that the ATG design team likes is to dedicate to this place located behind the bed itself. Thus, the nook reserved for messy fashion thoughts remains isolated in its own part of the room.

  1. MIRROR

A beautiful and necessary element in the interior of the bedroom is the mirror. We strongly believe that its presence is not only mandatory by necessity, but also brings a very elegant visual finish. And when we talk about smaller spaces, this is a stylish solution that you would like to use for the optical expansion of the space.

ATG design blog post 4 bedroom tips - mirror

As we emphasized at the beginning – these are the basics. Each next step should take into account them in order to have homogeneity of the choice and combinations. Thus, in addition to pleasing the eye, they will remain stable over time. This will allow you to regularly play with smaller elements of decoration to refresh the room.

Minimalism and cubic shapes: a modern interpretation of a Mediterranean villa

You remember that since May we have been on the Mediterranean wave and we like to immerse ourselves in the spirit of the coastal villas. Vacation August logically brings us back to the topic, but this time we will look at its contemporary interpretation and how Mediterranean architecture is influenced by modernism.

If in our May blog post we had focused on the distinctive and lavish elements typical of this architectural style, as well as on the open spaces – now we want to pay attention to their absolute contrast, which is an integral part of the currents that influenced the Mediterranean in the architectural aspect of modern times.

Straight corners and simple shapes

Perhaps a little surprising that an element borrowed from modernism and strongly present in the style of south coast houses is the simplified general view. At the beginning of the 20th century, leading modernists in architecture, such as Le Corbusier, for example, strongly adhered to simpler forms and minimizing decoration. This reinforces the white facades with thick walls, but with a much simpler design and the exclusion of complex fragments and decorations.

Small abstract windows and column lifting

Archipelago House by Nómena, located in Vichayito, Peru; Source: architizer.com

Archipelago House by Nómena, located in Vichayito, Peru; Source: architizer.com

As a total contrast to the large windows connecting the premises with the external environment, small windows with non-standard shapes are very popular here. On the one hand, they provide this clean vision of the façade, but on the other hand, they aim to allow less sun into the home and keep it as a cool and “shady” place. The abstract design gives the feeling of a contemporary reading.

Source: bostoncondoloft.com

The typical column lifting, again recognized as Le Corbusier’s handwriting, is recognized as appropriate in the construction of Mediterranean villas, in part because of the natural features of the places where they are usually created. This contributes to the easy terrace of the house, which is so characteristic of this region.

But in the most up-to-date interpretations of Mediterranean construction, you will notice the presence of the best of both “models”. The solution to limit the scorching sun and yet the separation of larger panoramic windows is most often blinds made of dense and natural material such as wood. The lifting of columns is also a preferred element in the design, which, in addition to pleasantly corresponding with right angles and cubic shapes, allows to form this fusion of inside and out.

Typical of southern latitudes is the basin and it is often an integral part of the landscape. We looked at several types of pools in our last article in our edna.bg column, which are undoubtedly a suitable addition to the overall Mediterranean villa landscape. Stay tuned for our next topic, which will give guidance in choosing features to implement in your future pool. [:]

8 rules on how to choose the right interior color

[:bg]

Choosing the main color of the interior is key when creating a space

Let us tell you about the basic rules regarding color solutions in the interior, which will be useful to you in the design of your room.

Rule 1

First of all, it is important to define the individual functional roles of space. It is necessary to navigate it, pay attention to its illuminated places, and only then determine the options from the color palette.

The warm range is most often applied when the windows of a room have a northwest direction, in this case, soft tones will give the space warmth and coziness.

In addition, light tones visually increase the space, and the presence of halftones will add variety. Such colors are best used in the living room, bedroom or children’s room.

Rule 2

The cold range of colors is most often applied when the windows have a southeast location. This gives us access to more natural light, where cold tones will bring the necessary balance and harmoniously complement the atmosphere of the room.

Cold colors are successfully applicable in the hallway, work area, kitchen, bedroom or bathroom.

Of course, there are shades that are suitable for individual rooms.

Rule 3

Sometimes it happens that a cold shade can take on a warmer and softer hue , and vice versa, a warm shade can become colder and more refreshing.

Thus, suitable shades of favorite colors can be chosen and used in various interior solutions.

Rule 4

Monochrome solutions nowadays are quite modern, but at the same time very complex in implementation. In this approach, it is important to avoid enhancing any color.

For this purpose, it is best to use different tones of one primary color and experiment with angles where there is direct light.

Rule 5

The most popular is definitely the warm, pastel range of colors. This is because the combination of such colors is done without difficulty.

The colors are pleasing to the eye and are easily perceived by most people.

In pastel color solutions, it is also appropriate to play with warm and cold shades. In this way, we can achieve the necessary balance and coziness in the room.

Do not neglect the use of brighter tones of details and accessories to make the interior fresher.

Rule 6

Sometimes it is appropriate to use more than one shade of a given color. The important thing here is not to overdo it with the amount of shades, two or three colors as the main ones are enough, which is the rule for most interior solutions.

A variety of shades may be present in the decoration, but in the interior as a whole, it is desirable to stick to the main ones chosen.

Rule 7

Working with contrasting colors is suitable for spacious rooms, as there is more opportunity to play with colors. This approach is most often applied where it is necessary to divide a space into separate functional areas.

For a room with smaller dimensions, contrasting solutions can be applied in lighter tones. This will visually give more space, and accent solutions will give the room the effect of compositional completeness.

Rule 8

For fans of bright and colorful, you will like the bright color scheme , again using colors that are close in combination.

The optimal solution is to combine two colors similar in spectrum and one opposite in tone, which will give a stylish effect and will become a good solution to the task at hand.

SELECTING THE MAIN INTERIOR COLOR IS A KEY FOR CREATING A SPACE

Let us tell you about the basic rules for selecting colors in the interior that will help you shape your room.

Rule 1

Above all, it is important to define the separate functional roles of the interior space. It is necessary to orientate in it, to pay attention to its illuminated places and then to choose variants of color from the color palette.

The warm color scheme is most often applied when the windows of a room have a northwest orientation, in which case soft tones will give the space warmth and coziness.

In addition, bright tones visually expand the space, and the presence of shades will add variety. Such colors best fit into living rooms, bedrooms, or nurseries.

Rule 2

The cool color scheme is most often applied when the windows have a southeastern orientation. This gives us access to more natural light where the cool tones will bring the necessary balance and will harmoniously complete the atmosphere of the room.

Cool colors can be successfully applied in the corridor, work area, kitchen, bedroom or bathroom.

Of course, there are shades that are appropriate for each separate room.

Rule 3

Sometimes a cool shade of color can acquire a warmer and softer hue and vice versa – a warm one can become cooler and refreshing.

In this way you can choose the appropriate shades of favorite colors and use them in various interior solutions.

Rule 4

Monochromatic solutions are quite modern nowadays but very complex to realize. In this approach, it is important to avoid oversaturation of any color.

This is why it is best to use different tones of one basic color and to experiment with angles where there is direct light.

Rule 5

The most popular, of course, is the warm, pastel color schemes. This is because these colors are easy to combine.

They are pleasing to the eye and are easily perceived by most people.

While using pastel colors, it is also appropriate to play around with warm and cool shades. In this way we can achieve the necessary balance and coziness in the room.

Do not overlook the use of brighter tons on certain details and accessories in order to make the interior fresher.

Rule 6

Sometimes it is appropriate to use more than one shade of a color. The important thing here is not to overdo the number of different shades. Two or three colors as a basis are enough, which is the rule for most interior solutions.

There may be a wide variety of different shades in the decoration, but in the interior as a whole, it is desirable to stick to the main shades that have already been chosen.

Rule 7

Working with contrasting colors is appropriate for spacious rooms, as there is better opportunity to play around with colors. This approach is most often applied where it is required to separate the interior space into individual functional areas.

For a room with smaller dimensions, contrast solutions can be applied using lighter tones. This will visually add more space, and accent solutions will give the room compositional completeness.

Rule 8

The fans of the bright and colorful will like the bright color palette that also uses harmonious colors.

The optimal solution is to combine two adjacent colors in the color spectrum and one opposite in tone, which will give a stylish effect and will be good design solution.
