Yes, we will get to the banana! Not for the first or the last time, food is a fulcrum of inspiration for an artist, and even as an embodiment of the work itself.
Impressed by the variety of miniatures, digital manipulations, works and products in the interior based on the theme of food, we will look at a few favorite images and creative authors that we find inspiring not only in the direction of art, but in the field of design in general.
The combination of creativity, intuition, taste and knowledge are not alien to chefs, artists, designers and architects. In order to always be authentic and at the same time distinctive, they are all guided by similar principles and methods. And the questions of identity, ideology, convenience and sustainability are found in concepts in more than one of them.
The presence of food in design can be traced entirely in the process of design evolution. One interesting example is designer Boggy Chan, who is looking for common ground between sweets and interior products. After many experiments with different materials, he settled on polyurethane to create a chair with a cupcake design. Associations of softness in muffin shapes result in experiments to achieve convenience and preserve similarities.
Food itself provokes many other associations in designers and we enjoy successful applications not only in furniture design, but also in lighting fixtures.
And vice versa – inspired by already existing models in product design, shapes are created in food, escaping from their characteristic ones in order to arouse interest.
Of course, food has been an inspiration for design more than once, and art never ceases to be an inspiration for food, subordinating it to strange shapes and sculptures finding their place in world food exhibitions and high-end restaurants.
Beyond our survival needs, food and art will continue to be a daily inspiration for people. Both visually and tastefully. And the shapes and texture are an occasion for different artists to interpret its context and belonging.
In fashion, the name of Meredith Wing stood out for us, who, under the Moomooi brand, develops her models in combination with food and plants, keeping her favorite activities from childhood – drawing and playing with food.
An absolute turning point in contemporary art was the appearance of the banana by the artist Maurizio Cattelan at the Art Bazel art exhibition in Miami. Once again, we see how with the simple inspiration of food, the miraculous message and incredible furor has been achieved, becoming part of a communication wave around the world. And yes, not so much about the valuable creation, but about the valuable lesson or joke that Cattelan made with everyone, but simply, once again, he showed how contemporary art is capable of transforming even a single banana into a work.
We hope you liked this light touch and sharing a piece of interesting interpretations in the world of design and food for our team. For more inspiration, follow us on Pinterest @ATGdesignbg.
