Food, Design, or Simple Art

Yes, we will get to the banana! Not for the first or the last time, food is a fulcrum of inspiration for an artist, and even as an embodiment of the work itself.

Impressed by the variety of miniatures, digital manipulations, works and products in the interior based on the theme of food, we will look at a few favorite images and creative authors that we find inspiring not only in the direction of art, but in the field of design in general.

Miniatures by Tatsuya Tanaka

The combination of creativity, intuition, taste and knowledge are not alien to chefs, artists, designers and architects. In order to always be authentic and at the same time distinctive, they are all guided by similar principles and methods. And the questions of identity, ideology, convenience and sustainability are found in concepts in more than one of them.

The presence of food in design can be traced entirely in the process of design evolution. One interesting example is designer Boggy Chan, who is looking for common ground between sweets and interior products. After many experiments with different materials, he settled on polyurethane to create a chair with a cupcake design. Associations of softness in muffin shapes result in experiments to achieve convenience and preserve similarities.

Food itself provokes many other associations in designers and we enjoy successful applications not only in furniture design, but also in lighting fixtures.ATGdesign-foodinspirationtodesign

And vice versa – inspired by already existing models in product design, shapes are created in food, escaping from their characteristic ones in order to arouse interest.

ATGdesign-Blog_images-nike-sushi

Of course, food has been an inspiration for design more than once, and art never ceases to be an inspiration for food, subordinating it to strange shapes and sculptures finding their place in world food exhibitions and high-end restaurants.

ATGdesign-foodsclupture

Beyond our survival needs, food and art will continue to be a daily inspiration for people. Both visually and tastefully. And the shapes and texture are an occasion for different artists to interpret its context and belonging.

In fashion, the name of Meredith Wing stood out for us, who, under the Moomooi brand, develops her models in combination with food and plants, keeping her favorite activities from childhood – drawing and playing with food.

An absolute turning point in contemporary art was the appearance of the banana by the artist Maurizio Cattelan at the Art Bazel art exhibition in Miami. Once again, we see how with the simple inspiration of food, the miraculous message and incredible furor has been achieved, becoming part of a communication wave around the world. And yes, not so much about the valuable creation, but about the valuable lesson or joke that Cattelan made with everyone, but simply, once again, he showed how contemporary art is capable of transforming even a single banana into a work.

THE OFFICE SPACE IN THE MODERN HOME

In the daily lives of many Bulgarians today, working from home has abruptly acquired a different meaning and it is no longer only freelance professionals who take advantage of this advantage. The fact is that many homes are not equipped with this functionality, but this is a good time to think that in the dynamics of modern society with a focus on career, having a comfortable space at home for work is a necessity.

ATGdesign-RD-2-homeoffice-design

RD-2 project – renders

But there are also many people with their own business, for example, for whom professional development has been among the top priorities for a long time. This naturally imposes the vision of the modern home with the presence of an office as a separate room. Well, don’t you think the era of the guest room is over? And what about transforming it into a home workspace?

ATG design - interior office 02

The creation of a cabinet in one way or another is an expression of the search for a convenient implementation of a space for a work process in the home. If you haven’t had it before, then you probably already think that it would be incredibly comfortable to have a special room for work inspiration and creative process, right?

There are no two opinions that working in a supine position from the couch is great…, but for half an hour. And how does the interior give a solution to the messy sticky notes and the crumbling table in the dining room with all your electronic gadgets or to the hunched stand because of the low table in the living room?

ATGdesign-GalcheviResidence-Homeoffice

We will share our experience as architects and will state that we have recently taken into account the need for the presence of office space in the home. That is why we often advise a client to create this important part of his future home due to a number of advantages. Of course, personal context is fundamental, and that is why we are going to present a very specific example of an interior completed this year.

Cozy cabinet for family business

In project RD-1 , the client’s task was to build an interior that the whole family could share for gatherings and workshops. The family business was the leading reason for the need to separate, in addition to a large open space for business meetings, also a secluded corner to focus on tasks.

ATG design-office render-RD-1-image 03

RD-1 project – renders

Here the plot clearly told us that the creation of a cozy office is mandatory and it was not difficult to assure the owners of this correct decision. Thus, we have separated a compact space in which there is both a desk with directional lighting and a small library with a comfortable armchair for relaxation or concentration.

ATG design-office render-RD-1-image 04

RD-1 project – renders

The choice of materials in this room corresponds to the overall line of the apartment, but is distinguished by the warm presence of wood and leather. Thus, the cabinet has become an important part that carries its own spirit and at the same time complements the home in a rational way.

What is your context and is it a functional solution to set up an office – we hope that working from home now will be a good starting point for assessing a future renovation or your new home. Our team of architects is available for consultations and preparation of a comprehensive plan for your home. [:]

Arch. Iveta Popova initiates an art event to provoke architects and designers

[:bg]

Feel Me experience is the first of a series of events focused on cultural and architectural monuments

National Student House is a pearl in the heart of Sofia – an institution unique in its character and history. With its architectural features, it attracts the attention of arch. Iveta Popova – co-founder of Design Lab. and leading architect of ATG design, and becomes the center of an alternative pop-up art event, a mix between sensory theater and immersive performance, initiated by herself.

Art has always been a way to raise pressing issues and it is through the Feel Me experience that we aim to do this – to draw the attention of the professional community to the Student House and the case of its renovation.” – says arch. Iveta Popova.

Inspired by the experience of a sensory performance in New York, on the one hand, and the world design forums with her many art installations, on the other, Iveta brings them together into one. Feel Me experience is a theatrical performance created in the context of the spaces of the Student House, and with its sets and installations it takes the first step towards changing the place.

Although the building ages beautifully, it is on the verge of collapse due to a fire in 2001. I believe that together with other colleagues from the architectural industry, by creating an expert group, we could revive the Student House and help rethink its spaces so that they meet the needs of modern youth with their design and function. ” – says arch. Dare.

The event will take place with new dates in the period May 28 – June 7 with only 6 days in which you can visit the performance that provokes the senses. The event was postponed for implementation after more than 2 months due to the security and health protection measures that were recommended by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture. Although it was at the final stage of preparation, the FEEL ME experience will be born anew at the end of May.

A pop-up “Breathing Bar” in the Main Lobby of the building will welcome guests. Created with the special plates of Fiandre Active Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic™, it is a mix between an art installation and a real bar.

On the opening evening – May 28, the organizers have prepared a festive program. Tickets are limited, and only a few people will experience the first-person experience.

The event takes place with the support of Sofia Municipality.

“Ethereal Nature” – 3D project for a luxury bathroom

[:bg]

A CREATIVE CONCEPT BASED ON FREEDOM OF SPIRIT AND CONNECTION WITH NATURE

The famous Ideal Standard Bathroom of the Year competition with each subsequent edition distinguishes the high level of interior design in Bulgaria and we are openly provoked with our participation to show not only a beautiful design, but also an exciting conceptual project.

ATGdesign-bathroom-of-the-year-Idealstandard-contest (2)

Inspired by the growing demand for man to be close to nature in his daily life, we developed an interior for a luxury bathroom “Ethereal Nature”. The idea is for the exterior to enter the interior of a personal and intimate space – that of the bathroom. We achieve this interconnection through the panoramic showcase and the living tree next to the bathtub. The soft, dense curtain creates a feeling of coziness and tenderness, while serving as a décor of the “stage” around the bathtub, the unequivocal accent of which is lamps in the shape of stylized birds (Brokis- Night Birds).

ATGdesign-bathroom-of-the-year-Idealstandard-contest (4)

In addition to paneling, the design concept is supported both visually and meaningfully by slabs with a natural marble vision from Fiandre’s Eco-Active series. These plates, with their antibacterial and photoactive coating that purifies the air from toxic molecules, are an innovative solution and solidly complement the intention to build an environment closer to natural purity and airiness.

ATGdesign-bathroom-of-the-year-Idealstandard-contest (4)

The layout also speaks of freedom and ease of movement of the occupant, providing enough “floating” space. The shower cabin in the center with all-glass walls, as well as the free-standing bathtub next to the showcase, are a provocation and a reflection of the brave and carefree spirit.

ATGdesign-bathroom-of-the-year-Idealstandard-contest (4)

The elegant ceramics and faucets of the Ideal Standard fit in perfect harmony with the design. This is the point of balance between etherity – the personification of freedom on the one hand, and strength – associated with roots, strength and stability, on the other.

TOP interior trends for 2020

Like every subsequent year, 2020 predetermines more and more trends and varieties, some of which are familiar from previous years, but with a new reading. The fact is that self-expression is a top trend, and it is usually the one we follow as individuals. That is why we, as an architectural and interior studio, will not be ashamed to point out these trends that are close to our hearts and boldly use in our projects.

Color of the Year

A tendency that we cannot escape is the need and demand of the individual, returning home to meet the calm and balance that were lacking in a busy daily life. We have already paid special attention to the blue – Classic and Harmony, according to global and local players in the industry, which bring balance in the mood and atmosphere. But one of the less frequently mentioned color trends of the year, which we also recognize ourselves, is that of Dulux – Tranquil Dawn. If the name of the shade doesn’t tell you much, simply put, it’s green! Soft and delicate, this color is easily combined with the so favorite grays and whites, which we use most distinctively in our work. In the latest interior project, we choose it as an accent in the upholstery of the furniture.

ATGdesign_Emerald Residence_kitchen (2)

Pink is back

For many of you, this may sound like a joke, but it is a fact that in its complex shades, pink is very pleasantly combined in the interior. Although after your childhood years you did not imagine the presence of pink in the home, we believe that if a few simple guidelines are followed, you will change your mind. Most of all, avoid tones that you associate with a barbie or a nursery. Matte surfaces in a fresh and light shade of complex pink (pink color mix with gray or red, for example) definitely contrast with pure pink with gloss, which we associate with children’s toys. The same applies to fabrics – the choice of velvet, wool or cotton looks elegant as an accent in combination with other more affluent tones to emphasize it instead of overshadowing it. The combination of metallic decorations in gold and pink gives a subtle finish.

ATGdesign-interiorproject-bedroomdesign

Simple and clean kitchen

Perhaps it occurred to you to disguise the refrigerator and incorporate it as part of the kitchen cabinets, but have you considered hiding the entire kitchen part?

ATG_design_Five-walnuts-interior-design-kitchen (1)

More and more households are moving in this direction, and the clean and minimalist design makes it a current trend. Small appliances and utensils can now completely disappear and the entire surface of the worktop can be freed up when you are not using it for kitchen coups. This is a perfect solution for designing a small kitchen or a combined kitchen with a dining room, so you won’t have to worry about your guests observing the workspace where you prepared their dinner.

ATG_design_Five-walnuts-interior-design-kitchen (2)

Plenty of texture

Design is not only about color solutions. We are increasingly seeing the customer’s demand for a multi-sensory experience at home and it is very easy to complement it with a combination of textures. The accumulation of various reliefs and materials is a real tactile pleasure. This is a perfect choice for a combination of neutral colors and is a suitable way to decorate the room even without the presence of new shades.

Traditional patterns in unexpected spaces

Small floral motifs are making a comeback and possessing almost every aspect of design, with ceramic tiles, upholstery, and wallpaper just the beginning. The new reading in 2020 will be precisely their non-standard combination with various contemporary decorations and styles or their unexpected appearance in spaces that are not typical for this choice.

ATGdesign_Galchev residence_kidsbathroomdesign

Velvet is back in fashion

Last but not least, velvet is a favorite trend that we personally think fits best into the décor through a beautiful armchair or sofa. Velvet has long been a symbol of luxury, and now many more people dare to add it to the interior, either as a characteristic finish or to emphasize their eclectic taste. Through the eyes of our professionalism, velvet in a good combination can emphasize the bold and refined style of the occupant.

With each of these trends, you can build both incredibly beautiful interiors and poorly thought out combinations. Therefore, our advice is to always consult a professional, so as not to create instead of coziness in your wonderful new home, a mistake that costs a lot. [:]

Blue as Harmony

[:bg]

Favorite shades of blue conquer the world with the trend “Color of the Year” on a global and local level in the interior.

In the interior, we always adhere to clean lines and minimalist style, in which the tenderness of white and the veins of marble are leading. We admit openly that for ATG design, blue has always been a favorite choice for an accent color and in this line of thought, “Blue Harmony” – the local trend chosen as the color of the year by “Orgachim”, is a shade in which we recognize ourselves as distinctive for our work. It fits very well with the palette of white and gray tones and highlights the natural materials, such as wood and stone, that we prefer to work with.

ATG-design-color-of-the-year-bathroom-design

What moods does blue bring us?

For example, for a bedroom project, we choose “Blue Harmony” to be in the lead role on the wall opposite the window. Thus, by reflecting daylight, the whole room is immersed in a blue hue and during the day it gives a sense of calm and balance.

ATG-design-Color-of-the-year-bedroom-design

3D visualisation by ATG design

At the same time, our demand is to express character and confidence in the bold decision for a predominant and saturated color in the room. We believe that with the presence of different textiles in the room, a pleasant variety of surfaces is achieved, which contrast with the smooth furniture, mirrors and stone. This speaks not only of confident style, but also confirms the exquisite taste of the inhabitant.

Roof terrace – a gift in the urban jungle

We choose to dream on a smog-enveloped day. Even though the air is so cold and turns tiny droplets into frost, we’re mentally drawn to a season where we’re more in love with the city. The warm months naturally provoke us to look for more open spaces, and the pleasure of having a roof terrace, we believe, is a privilege of God’s chosen ones in the urban jungle. Without a hint of envy, such a space is truly a gift. That is why we dedicate the following lines to a few ideas on how best to use it.

And what could be better than planning a renovation for spring, when you will already be looking forward to enjoying the time spent there?

ANA-Arquitectura20-a1-1580x549-source-inhabitat-com

source: inhabitat.com

In a house or apartment, the roof terrace offers many amazing options for decoration and furnishing. Natural materials such as wood and stone will remain an inevitable trend, which can contribute to coziness and will also bring you closer to the feeling of a villa in nature. Greenery is also a must in this line of thought – the abundance of plants will create a welcoming atmosphere and is an opportunity to create a natural barrier or décor that will hide less inhospitable views, for example.

living-roofs-rooftop-gardens-book-02-source-architecturaldigest-com

source: architecturaldigest.com

As architects putting functionality first, our leading question would be – how will the space be used? For relaxation and solitude or for dinners with friends and night cinema?

In the first case, we would advise you to bet on upholstered furniture with the possibility of complete relaxation and enjoying the view. According to the conditions, you can bet on a hanging swing or hammock instead of an armchair. This will give a more buhemian and casual look to the place.

Rooftop-Terrase-swing-source-pinimg-com

source: pinimg.com

If your goal is to get together with friends for or without an occasion, then it is good to keep in mind the construction of a small kitchen, barbecue or bar that will serve your good time. At a minimum, there would also be a dinner table for six people. If you want to avoid the pretentious style again – benches with a minimalist design can be a very good choice. We also highly recommend built-in furniture, which can significantly optimize space and also bring a dose of minimalism.

Roof-Terrace-Design-Kings-Cross04-source-gardenbuilders

source: gardenbuilders.com

And despite its goals, there are a few must-have elements that we recommend considering when planning your future roof terrace.

One of them is certainly the fireplace!

The advantage of bio fireplaces in modern design is that they can be implemented in unusual places, thus optimizing the space and allowing everyone to be around the fire. For example, you can implement it in the center of a solid stone table. This will bring not only atmosphere to the evening gatherings, warmth in the cooler months and will not limit you from enjoying the spectacular view in the fall.

source: onekindesign.com

Creating a shed would also be a nice bonus, especially if you also have day parties on the weekend or want to have the opportunity to take a break from sunbathing in the shade. On the one hand, you can bet on a solid shed to cover part of the furniture – this is a convenience in the rainy/snowy months. On the other hand, it is nice to form a patterned shade with beams, on which you can place an airy fabric or glass. It is important, of course, to take it into account in your context and especially to keep in mind the solstice in the different seasons, so that its function is optimal.

365 Days A Satisfying Journey Into the World of Design

Architecture is one of those professions in which the result is not instantaneous. It takes patience, perseverance, and perseverance to observe the fruit of your creation. The beauty lies in the fact that style is not a constant, but is constantly evolving and enriched by the experience of time, from which we, as a team, manage to draw inspiration.

A few days before the end of 2019, we can safely say that the string of 365 days was a unique journey in which we laid the foundations for new long-term ventures, interesting architectural projects and collected awards for our tireless work from the previous year!

Awards

We are proud that this year, when we look back, we can satisfactorily count the awards received for our achievements in 2018 and in different categories.

In February, at the annual Ideal Standard Bathroom of the Year awards, our team won the Media Award for Ideal School Toilet, and in April, the prestigious magazine Ideal Home awarded the First Prize for the interior of a small home. Autumn was also exciting with the spectacular event of the interior and product design platform DIBLA, where we distinguished ourselves with a nomination for Best Residential Interior and an award for a professional profile in dibla.com.

atgdesign idealstandard award

Journey

Being among the winners with the best 3D project for the ideal school toilet in the Ideal Standard Bathroom of the Year 2018 competition, our team traveled together with the other finalists to Milan to visit the Italian office of Ideal Standard. We had the pleasure of meeting their chief designer Roberto Palomba personally and attending presentations and meetings dedicated to interior design.

atgdesign-idealstandard-visit-in-milano

The very next month, our team visited another prominent place in the field of design in Milan. Being in the MisuraEmme factory was an amazing experience and we are happy to have had the opportunity to closely observe their work and get to know all the processes first-hand. The walk in the creative corner of established furniture manufacturers with a long history and achievements was truly inspiring!

atgdesign-misuraemme-visit-in-milano

Among our many trips in Milan, we could not miss the two biggest events in the field of design and architecture – Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone (Milan Design week). A truly memorable cultural and emotional experience.

Endeavors

A characteristic feature of arch. Iveta Popova, as the leader of ATG design, is her innovative and visionary approach to her work, and not only in terms of design. The creation of the My Perfect Home series is perhaps one of the best examples of this.

ATGdesign_MyPerfectHome_Starbucks_tumbnail

A familiar format that in an attractive and engaging way invites its followers for a walk in the completed projects of ATG design. We believe that it is through the eyes of the owner and occupant that we can create the best idea of what the perfect home looks like. Thus, in the fall, we presented the first two editions of the video series with the two interior projects RD-1 and Starbucks.

Projects

In the continuous maelstrom of work in 2019, we were able to release interiors that were awarded with nominations, awards and publications in international media. This helped us to establish ourselves with a distinctive style and handwriting in our work and launched us forward in the launch of even more challenging and inspiring projects with new clients.

We wish ourselves in the new year to set the bar even higher and successfully express our visionary vision for functional and sophisticated design, thus provoking well-deserved public attention. [:]

Tiles – a choice for every room in a modern home

Diverse in design, durable and stylish, ceramic tiles have long gone beyond the bathroom and kitchen and are a leading accent in a kind of revolution in flooring. With their innovative and provocative design, they boldly enter not only as flooring, but also as wall cladding for more and more homes. If for years their fame was as a budget alternative to natural stone and a preferred material for rooms with a need for high water resistance, then this is already an absolute myth and no restriction on their entry into the modern home in the most bizarre ways. Therefore, we will not focus on their applicability, but rather on the trends in their design.

On the threshold of 2020, the latest collections of the major brands in the industry literally break notions with original prints and reliefs. This not only unlocks the imagination and senses, but also puts on a new front how the interior is perceived as a whole. Convincing and bold patterns, repetitive motifs and realism are just the beginning of even more inspiring collections.

ATG-design-tiles-blog-designs-42zero41

Floral motifs

Floral patterns are not what they used to be. Through print innovations and new technologies, the recreation of an absolutely realistic image looks like child’s play and brings a new look to the interior. Thus, it is enough for the designer himself to have freedom to put more layers that are not only accentuated, but also key to the message and atmosphere of the space. Giving an inevitable depth in this unexpected way is another element that we like so much – a perfect choice for smaller rooms.

ATG-design-tiles-Blog_cover-42zero41_forest

Figurative elements

Yes! They will always be a preferred choice for playing in design, because they can be easily combined and show a distinctive character. And why not be this repeating thread in all the rooms of the future home? Definitely, these exciting designs can unleash even your own potential and creative spirit to create an interior entirely to your liking, precisely because of their easy combination – both color and geometric.

ATG-design-blogpost-tiles-41zero42

Vibrant minimalism

We would not miss to show the most inspiring tiles for us – the embossed ones. They can be in very bold and soft colors, complementing the interior extremely well without intrusion, but leaving this definite message for handwriting. As fans of minimalism, they are a frequent choice in our projects, which adds a touch of sensuality to the experience through the so vibrant textures.

ATG-design-tiles-Blog_41zero42-embossed

In short, we would summarize that we expect 2020 to arrive with many distinctive models in the field of tiles. And this will not only unlock the possibilities in terms of imitations with a stylish and convincing vision, but will also bring a bright accent with eye-catching patterns, shapes and designs. And even more excited about the expanding textures and their new collections. And although we will repeat ourselves – whether we are talking about flooring or wall cladding – tiles are a perfect overall choice and accent in any room. Are you ready to welcome them into your home? [:]

Starbucks apartment – modern look combining elegant and smart design

An apartment from the 30s of the last century in the heart of the capital is now home to a young family. The owner Mihail has the emotional connection with the apartment, which has undergone 3 radical transformations over the years. For his latest transformation, he trusted ATG design.

Before it acquired this modern look, the place was an office for the family business. At that time, part of the walls were demolished and a completely open space was created, leaving only one room separated. Arch. Iveta Popova decided to keep the concept to some extent and formed a large room that merged the living room, dining room and kitchen, but at the same time, at Mihail’s request, new walls were also raised. Thus, a bedroom with a private bathroom, a children’s room with a second bathroom, a study and a small functional vestibule are built.

ATGdesign_Starbucks-apartment-blog (5)

The main line represented in the architecture and interior of the home is functionality and stylish finish. Owners are very keen on white and gray for primary colors, which contributes to a fresh and spacious atmosphere. Accent tones are in the range of blue-green, and in the children’s room it switches to gray-green. The presence of natural materials such as wood and wool create a feeling of coziness, and textile wallpaper contributes to the warm radiance of the home.

Ceilings up to 3.20 m high allow the floor to be raised and insulated during construction. Thus, when choosing granite tiles for flooring, the apartment still remains warm. Really impressive is the scale of the marble slabs, and one of them can be seen as a decorative accent on the wall opposite the sofa. In combination with monochrome graphics, an art group is formed, which replaces the TV in the everyday corner. Characteristic handwriting for arch. Iveta Popova is this design game of bringing unobtrusive but remarkable elements into the interior.

ATGdesign_Starbucks-apartment-blog (1)

The modular cabinet along the entire wall, in addition to storage, is conveniently adapted with a soft seat. In combination with the mini library, built into the vertical module above the fireplace, there is a pleasant corner for privacy or an additional place for a larger company around the wooden table. It also deserves attention, as it is handmade from solid timber. Individual cubes create different configurations according to the occasion, and the niches inside them can be visible or hidden.

ATGdesign_Starbucks-apartment-blog-dining-area

Definitely hidden niches are a characteristic motif in the interior and shows a clever approach to the use of space of 120 sq.m., through which a clean vision is preserved. At the request of the client to always have the kitchen in its minimalist form, all necessary utensils and utensils are visually hidden behind the marble kitchen back with a sliding mechanism. At the touch of a button, the back of the kitchen counter is automatically lifted and the kitchen is once again transformed into readiness for delicious adventures. When lowered, the back harmoniously fits with the flooring, and the marble vein can find its continuation on the decorative slab in the living room opposite the sofa.
